Almex Global Services - Bangladesh Project

Almex Global Services aided LaFarge in changing out 17 Kilometers of overland belt stretching between the Kurmi deposit in Meghalaya state to the Lafarge Cement plant in Chhatak upazila.

The belt crossed over the India-Bangladesh border, as well as passing through a conveyor corridor that flooded for four months during the monsoon season.

Accordingly, the conveyor is 5 Meters above the ground and is only accessible by maintenance trolleys.

The original Phoenix ST 2500 steel cord belt was supplied on 300 or 500 meter rolls to minimize the splicing but was a challenge for transportation due the size of the load versus the size of the rolls and the available transportation equipment (trucks and cranes).

The replacement belt from Sempertans was able to be supplied on 921 meter rolls.

Almex Global Services were engaged to help replace the belt within the project timeframe and despite geographical challenges. Read more about the Belt Changeout project in the May 2021 Edition of Mining Engineer or download the pdf version.
