Almex Group Awarded Conveyor Rip Prevention Contract
Shaw Almex announced today that it has awarded the contract to provide its EMSYS systems for the largest open pit mine in North America.
The EMSYS WSR and LSRS systems were selected jointly by the general contractors for the project. The three critical factors in the decision were:
1. The ability of EMSYS LSRS system to read the loops from all other competitors’ systems as well as the EMSYS SMARTWIRE.
2. The speed with which a SmartWire can be replaced in the conveyor to mitigate significant belt damage, taking only minutes instead of the 6-8 hours required for competitors’ systems. 3. The durability of the SmartWires’ construction which enabled Almex to offer a 1-year warranty on their operation.
This project will include both the WSR AND LSRS systems which utilize completely different technologies to detect conveyor belt rips, offering a level of redundancy and protection not offered by any other solution. The WSR unit functions by taking and storing the measurements of the width of the entire belt. If and when there are any changes due to a rip, the system instantly detects the change and stops the conveyor belt. The WSR system will also detect and prevent edge to the conveyor.
Almex Vice President Mark Bayley stated “the EMSYS technology is a game changer in the protection of conveyor belts from rips and damage. The fact that there now is a viable solution for belts with failed loops or belts with fabric construction offers operators a whole new toolkit to work with.” Mr. Bayley further stated, “that the fact the EMSYS systems all will send alarms to smart phones and tablets and can be monitored remotely brings this technology into the digital age.”
